August 4, 2026

The road got surface sealed today. They first put down this "American-sourced, field proven Maltene Replacement Technology (MRT) product" (according to a flyer they left by the mailbox). Then went over it with some sort of sand/grit. Their flyer said we're only supposed to go 5 MPH for two days. Nobody does... even the bicycles go faster than that.

My daughter made potato skins, then made doughnuts with the scooped out potato.

July 31, 2026

Indian corn and pumpkins. I think these pumpkins are a type with hullless seeds.

July 30, 2026

I dug a few potato plants. The potatoes are not big yet, but the plants are still growing so they might get bigger.

I found a lightning bug on one of my flowers.

July 25, 2027

The lower section of the garden isn't growing as well. We'll have to make sure we put a ditch on that side from now on.

July 23, 2026

My lettuce has gotten tall. It's still edible though. I've got new ones started but they're slow growing so far.

My son spent some time using his 3D printer to make this robot. My husband put it together and painted it. It's going to the local gamestore.

It wasn't very smoky today, and we got a little bit of rain in the afternoon.

July 17, 2026

It's still smoky.

Thursday, July 16, 2026

July 16, 2026

It was very smoky today. This was taken in the middle of the day when we should have had bright sun because there weren't any clouds. It's all smoke. It smelled smoky too.

July 15, 2026

It's getting hazy from some wildfires in Canada.

Tuesday, July 14, 2026

July 14, 2026

My cup plant and queen of the prairie are blooming.

July 13, 2026

I got a few rows of the indian corn weeded. It's growing nicely, with pumpkins growing between them. I planted beans too but most of them didn't grow so we planted sweet corn where the beans didn't come up.

July 12, 2026

Dragonfly.

Saturday, July 11, 2026

July 11, 2026

We got a bunch of rain this week. The kale and cabbage on the lower, wetter side of the garden are dying. I guess they don't like excess water.

July 10, 2026

Block was delivered across the road today.

These two hummingbirds fight over the feeder, along with a third one which shows up occasionally. They don't like to share.

July 3, 2026

There were a lot of big, impressive clouds today. My kids took some time lapse videos of them. We eventually got some needed rain in the evening.

June 29, 2026

We saw a turtle laying eggs at the edge of my field peas. Maybe I'll cover it over with the peas to hide it tomorrow.

June 28, 2026

I spent most of the day weeding and hoeing the gardens. We got most of it done, but the rest of the weeks is supposed to be hot so what's left will have to wait.

Saturday, June 27, 2026

June 27, 2026

Some of the potatoes are starting to have flowers.

June 26, 2026

At the moment, our apple trees have some nice looking apples coming on.
