The sap has been cloudy and yellow so it's time to pull the taps from the trees. It sounds nice in the woods since the frogs are chirping- another sign of spring.

We keep finding little brown moths in the sap. We fish them out and set them free. I imagine they're probably sticky after their swim.

The sap pretty much stopped running now so our buckets were nearly empty. It's nice weather for a walk though.

It warmed up too much and the sap has gotten cloudy. Hopefully it will get better when it gets cold later in the week.

I went to the optometrist today. I was there early enough to browse new glasses before going in and getting my eyes numbed and dialated. My vision isn't as clear for a while after getting those drops. But I got to pick out a new pair of glasses, which is the best incentive to go to the eye doctor.

Two of our sap buckets were overflowing today. We got quite a lot of sap. I boiled some today as well.

It's been below freezing for several days. It finally warmed up enough for the sap to flow again. We filled up these two containers and had to go back and get another.

The sun shines through my office window in the morning. I usually end up with a kitty laying in the sun. They always look so comfy and happy.

We have two different types of spiles. Some are like this one, though we have two sizes now. These ones are for the jugs and bags.

I had enough sap to boil today too. I fill up the stove with pots. The middle pan doesn't boil but warms the sap up a bit before I add to the pots.

We made the first batch of syrup. I bought some glass jars with small caps. Reliable canning lids are hard to find and expensive right now, so these did not cost much more than lids- and will pour much better than a mason jar. In this picture the sediment is still floating. By morning they were much clearer after the sediment settled to the bottom.
