March 31, 2020

A company down the road supplies restauraunts with produce.  With most of the restauraunts closed they have started selling their goods to the public.  They offer it in boxes with specific items inside and you order and pay for it online.  Then we came to the back of the building, told our names, and our order was put in the back of the car.  We got a lot of vegetables, fruit, some milk and butter, and eggs.

March 28, 2020

We had some thunderstorm roll through.  They weren't bad, but we did get some hail.  About five minutes after it stopped the kids went out and picked up some of it and we found it was shaped weird.  They had spikes.

Some of my tomatoes are growing.  This week our governor closed 'non-essential' business on Tuesday to try to slow the spread of the virus.  Unfortunately, nearly every business has declared themselves 'essential' and so not much has changed, except that many people are shopping like it's Christmas Eve.  My son went to an allergy shot appointment yesterday.  They called and had him come in early to spread out the appointments, had him use hand sanitizer, checked his temperature twice, and had him segregated in his own room.  He noticed on the drive that the grocery store parking lots were full, and even Harbor Freight was crowded on a Thursday morning.  I worry that this is when it spreads like wildfire and in a couple weeks we'll have full hospitals and lots of dying people, like Italy and New York City right now.

March 24, 2020

Today is 10 years since I started this blog!  It has become a journal and it's great to go back and look at what we were doing in years past- and how much the kids have grown.  I'm celebrating my milestone by "sheltering at home" as my state's governor has said we should so we don't spread the virus so fast.  With our economy sinking and restrictions on businesses I thought maybe I should start my own seeds for the garden.  This tray has broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, peppers, and tomatoes.

That's the male woodpecker on the left and female on the right.  I keep wondering where they're going to build their nest as we're a fair distance from the woods.

March 20, 2020

My son is taking trigonometry but it was already an online only class, except for tests.  He keeps having to use that circle thing on the left monitor.  When I took trig years ago I don't remember anything like that.

School at home!

March 18, 2020

The schools are trying to figure out what to do with kids at home.  My son's school called and asked if we had a computer and internet as they were trying to determine their options.  For now, he brought home some paperwork and other work is on the school's website.  He's pretty good at getting it done on his own so far.  This is his last year, and now we're wondering what's going to happen- will he get a graduation ceremony?  He qualified for a state competition recently, but that is canceled, along with a robot fighting competition he has been working on all year.

I wish I could get as comfortable as the cat does!
We were supposed to have primary voting today but yesterday evening it was canceled, then later that night a judge said you can't do that, then even later a health director shut it down anyway.  In the end- voting postponed.  I don't know why the governor waited until the last few hours of the day to cancel- it should have been done when he canceled school.

March 16, 2020

Last week was spring break, and all kinds of crazy stuff started happening.  Due to the new virus (Covid-19, novel coronavirus) the state is shutting down different things.  It started with colleges, which all closed and moved to online around Wednesday.  Then kindergarten through 12th grade was announced to be closed starting Monday (probably the only thing to close so far with a decent warning ahead of time).  On Sunday restaurants were to shut down for dine-in service (they were only given a couple hours notice).  Today other 'non-essential' places like theaters, bowling, etc. were told to close today.
This work is for one of my classes- a powerpoint to review and then answer some questions.  This teacher said to take a photo of our homework and upload it to her.

We got our census paper today.  It says to fill it in online, so I did.

March 13, 2020

For the last few years, we've had trouble buying seed potatoes as everyone was selling out early.  So when we found out the greenhouse was open and had potatoes, we went and got our seeds.  I liked their display, especially the big hanging bags of onion sets.

This is the bad igniter from my stove.  It's not supposed to be ash grey in the center, it's supposed to be glittery like the top quarter of that element.

March 11, 2020

For $64 my husband fixed the oven.  Guess we can put off a new stove for a while longer.  The biggest reason I don't want a new one is that we've had bad luck with new appliances not lasting long.  The stove has been working for 17 years, so we'll probably fix it until we can't, since a new one might only last a couple years.

March 10, 2020

My oven stopped working so we went to Lowe's to look at new ones.  For some reason, the stainless steel version of the one I liked was on sale for $700, but white to match all my other appliances would be an extra $300.  After deciding to think about it my husband stopped to get some other thing he needed in this aisle.

I noticed today all the mail trucks now have orange flags.

March 6, 2020

The cloth on my purse is wearing out so I bought new fabric to make a new one.  This fabric is the thicker upholstery type so hopefully it will last longer.

March 5, 2020

We had a heavy frost this morning.

The new dryer is in use.
