February 28, 2015

I had to take my son to school at 6 AM this morning.  He beat out his classmates (including the ones in the next grade up) to qualify for a regional competition.  The contest was in his 'major', engineering.  He got third place at the regional today, and will get to go to a state competition in April.  I guess it's unusual for a younger kid to go, so we're extra proud of him.

February 27, 2015

The cat likes to lay in bed with my daughter when she goes to sleep.  However, this being Friday my daughter gets to stay up later.  This is our cat's angry face an hour after bedtime.

The kids had school again today, hooray!

February 25, 2015

My neighborhood is just a series of parallel snow piles.  But at least the kids went to school today, after getting 4 snow days in a row plus the weekend.

February 24, 2015

I got a hydrangea on Valentine's clearance.

February 23, 2015

Our tractor is in the middle of a large snowdrift.

February 22, 2015

I went up into the top of the barn to see the snow.

February 21, 2015

We got more snow today.  It was heavy during the morning.  The grocery store plowman seemed to be having trouble keeping up with it.

February 20, 2015

Today's reason the the kids didn't have school- it was cold!  This was their 7th snow day.

February 19, 2015

The grader came by today.  He graded a knee high mound of hard packed snow into the driveway.  It's interesting how the snow piles along the road vary depending on the ground to the north and west.  Just down the road a few hundred feet there's only a few inches of snow plowed alongside the road, while there's a few feet by my driveway.  I added 'move the driveway 100 feet south' to my list of things I'd do if we won the lottery and had money to burn.

February, 17, 2015

My husband plowed the driveway some more tonight.  It needed to be widened for the incoming snow.

February 16, 2015

Today was President's Day, so I had extra kids this afternoon.

February 15, 2015

We're running out of room for the plowed snow.

February 14, 2015

One of the boys in my daughter's class gave all the girls in their class a rose for Valentine's day.  It opened up today and looks nice.  It even smells good, too.

February 13, 2015

My daughter ventured out in the cold and made a snow angel.

February 12, 2015

The snowmen melted a little, giving themselves a coat of ice armor.

February 11, 2015

These are the valentines my daughter is passing out at school this year.

February 10, 2015

My son chopped up some of the ice from the sidewalk.

February 9, 2015

Here is some more flannel I bought.

February 8, 2015

It warmed up a little bit, so he plowed the softened snow.  He plowed enough to widen out the driveway (to make room for future snow, since this doesn't seem likely to melt any time soon).

February 7, 2015

They built new snowmen today.

February 6, 2015

We got some icicles on the barn.

February 5, 2015

Our driveway keeps getting filled in with snowdrifts.  It wasn't very windy last night, but we still got these drifts a few feet into the drive.

February 4, 2015

When the communities went to buy road salt for this winter, they say the price shot up significantly.  I guess that's why they aren't salting our road very often (maybe once per storm, every week or so).  This is the most I've seen of the asphalt for a while.  Yesterday the road had a nice thick layer of snow/ice, complete with a few chuckholes.  Then this morning they put something on the road.  It was dark like cinders, but the snow melted... in a few places.  It caused a horribly bumpy road due to the thousands of potholes that formed in the packed snow layer.  I'm sure a railroad track would have been a smoother ride.  I was glad when it started snowing this evening, filling in the holes somewhat.

February 2, 2015

We got more snow today, and more drifts.  We could use a bigger tractor!

February 1, 2015

Our family activity of the day was bringing in wood, during the snowstorm.  School called at 9 PM and said they've got their fifth snow day tomorrow.

January 31, 2015

My nephews spent the night today.  They played Minecraft, of course.  They built stables and captured a bunch of horses.
