We went to the balloon festival parade this morning. My daughter helped with her school's float. In the evening, hot air balloons from the festival landed in our neighborhood. One landed two houses down. We went over and watched them. The pilot invited us over to check the balloon out up close. The boys helped pack up the envelope. Most balloons have a chase vehicle with a trailer, but this crew just used a pickup- the basket fit on a lift gate on the back. It was interesting to watch them pack it all away.

Today was Friday the 13th and a full moon, so any superstitious people probably had a bad day. In the evening we had a fantastic thunderstorm with nearly constant lightning. It's been a while since we had a storm with that much lightning. The family turned off their computers and sat on the couch watching the show outside, while I setup my camera and took lots of photos.

My school now offers CDL- commercial driver's license classes. They took over a part of the parking lot. Today they had long rows of cones set up, and they were going forward and backward through the cones. I didn't notice any cones knocked over, so they must have been doing better than I would.

The county came through and put down more tar and gravel. This time the gravel is smaller (and less damaging to vehicles). It's still a dusty mess.

My mom had a big pin oak cut down. It had three trunks, with one leaning toward the neighbor's house and one toward mom's house. The tree company brought in a large crane and a bucket truck.

The county came through and chip sealed our road (right side, they came through later to do the left). They claim it makes the road last longer... I think it's just a way to hide all the patch jobs they've done. Now the filled potholes upon filled potholes all look the same, and my road is a gravel mess.
