January 31, 2018

January 30, 2018

I finally broke down and cleaned out my pantry.  It is amazing how much stuff can fit in there.  While in the grand scheme of things, too much in the pantry is a good thing, it isn't so great when I can't find anything and keep re-buying stuff I already have hidden in the vast depths.

Bird watching.

January 28, 2018

The hawk, or another one, showed up again.

January 27, 2018

This cat will sit by the door when he knows somebody is on the other side in the garage.  It didn't take too long for him to figure out that he needs to lay far enough back so he doesn't get whacked by the door when it opens.  Now he sits about 3 inches from the reach of the door, so he's got it worked out rather close.

This is the ice sheet on our pool.  It's melting faster underneath the leaves.

January 24, 2018

These are the birds we see the most at the feeder.  They pick apart the sunflower seeds, and after the snow melted we found sunflower shells on the sidewalk and under every bush in front of the house.

January 23, 2018

I bought fabric with some silvery threads in it.  I'm making it into a shirt.

January 21, 2018

I noticed a small split in the trunk of this tree last spring.  Now, that tiny crack is significantly wider, and possibly all the way to the center of the tree.

January 20, 2018

My daughter spent her saved up money on a chromebook.  I'm starting to think it was just so she could take a computer back to her room and get away from the rest of us.

January 18, 2018

We were trying to identify this hawk.  We think it's a Cooper's Hawk.  It didn't get any of the birds that were at the feeder.

January 17, 2018

My husband got this for me.  It lights up and turns slowly.

January 16, 2018

Some blue jays showed up and gulped down a bunch of seed.

January 15, 2018

I've heard people joking that boxes are cat traps.  I think they're right.  There's something about cardboard which seems to attract cats.

January 14, 2018

We finally got around to taking the Christmas tree down.

January 13, 2018

We ran out to the grocery store.  We haven't had a whole lot of snow, but they have a huge snow pile anyway.

January 12, 2018

I spent much of the day sorting out my filing cabinet- with 'help' from the cat.  Apparently I haven't cleaned it out for 3 years.  The three biggest stacks were medical bills, partially because the insurance sends us a 3-5 page letter for each doctor visit to tell us what they are and (more likely) are not going to pay for.  It was a bad weather day, going from 50° at 10:30 to 32 by noon, with freezing rain and ice, and then blowing snow.  It was a good thing the kids already had the day off from school, or it would have been another snow day.

January 11, 2018

My husband made a chute sort of thing to put wood in the basement.

January 10, 2018

I was able to see sky this morning- for about an hour.  These clouds must have been the front of a new storm.

January 9, 2018

Today was haircut day.

January 8, 2018

The kids got another snow day today.

January 7, 2018

We got this on Christmas clearance, but I will probably keep it out.  It's fun to spin the blades.

January 6, 2018

I was at the last Christmas gathering of the season today.

January 4, 2018

We got a call at 5:30 this morning that school is cancelled today and tomorrow, due to "inclement weather" (low temperatures and wind).

January 3, 2018

I took this with my new lens.  It's not as crystal clear as I'd like, but still pretty neat.

January 2, 2018

We played a new game, although we're still trying to decide if we're following the rules correctly.

January 1, 2018

We're starting the year with snow!  The birds like the birdseed, and the cats enjoy watching the birds.
