My son's CAD (engineering) class got canceled.  The most logical option we were given was to move him over to the machining class.  It makes sense- if he wants to design stuff, he should know how the machines he is designing for work.  The machining class has a much bigger ($$) supply list.  He had to get a uniform (shirts), goggles, steel toed shoes, and this $463 tool kit.  When we looked at the list of tools, my dad had extras of all of them and would let him borrow them.  But then we looked at the tool prices online, and saw that the tool company was giving the kids a really good deal.  So we bought new tools.  My husband says he'll use some of those tools if our son doesn't once school is out.

We were able to get some swimming in today, and got out just before the rain hit.  But it made a rainbow, so the kids enjoyed the rain.

It's the first day of school!  The biggest problem with starting school this early is that most schools don't have air conditioning and are very hot.  It's hard enough to pay attention in class when you're comfortable, but a hot math room would have had me nodding off.

We stayed up tonight to see the Perseids meteor shower tonight.  It was a good night for it- clear sky, new moon, not too hot or cold, and no mosquitoes.  We were able to see quite a few meteors from our deck.  I didn't get the biggest ones we saw, but in this photo you can see two of the smaller meteors.  The far left line is an airplane, but there is a meteor heading toward the upper right, and one toward the lower right of the picture.

We went to a Civil War battle reenactment today at Hale Farm.  I liked it- there was infantry, cavalry and cannons.  I liked the cannons, we could feel them in our chests even though we were a good ways from them.

This is a sweet potato flower.  They seem to have quite a few blooms in the morning which die off by the evening.  They remind me a little of morning glory flowers.
