A praying mantis crawled on my office screen yesterday. It came back today. When I moved around, it turned it's head toward me. My son didn't like that though, he said it's creepy. I thought it was neat!

Fall has started already. We had a very light, patchy frost last week, and that seemed to have really triggered everything to start turning. A few trees are really bright like this one back in our woods. Most are still green, although they're looking pale compared to summer.

We dug potatoes today. There wasn't as much as last year, but still more than enough for us. My oldest son has no interest in driving the tractor, but my younger son and oldest nephew do. They ended up taking turns for a while driving and pushing the plow. Their rows weren't as straight as Grandpa's though!

My husband didn't like heights and couldn't go up high, until this year. Now he says, for some reason, it doesn't bother him anymore. After all these years, it's really strange to see him up on a tall ladder.

My son has been helping. Today he decided the doors needed handles and screwed on some blocks of wood.

They got one side of the barn sided, despite all the wind we had today. My son helped by screwing in some of the screws.

I took the kids to the parade today. It was a really nice morning for it, good temperature and no rain.

We picked our pumpkins today. The biggest one is 45 pounds. We'll have some nice, big jack-o-lanterns this year. And lots of pumpkin to eat.

The mower still needs some work. Some part or another wasn't right, so they'll have to do more work on it.
September 17, 2014
More work on the barn. They're working on the little fiddly stuff before putting up whole sheets of siding.

Our old cub's mower wasn't working, so my son took it apart. He found a busted pulley and shaft. I guess that's what was making it rattle so bad!

Mom and dad came and helped me juice tomatoes. We had six buckets of tomatoes, and the juice filled all three of my stock pots, 4 plastic containers and two sap buckets. I got 33 quarts of fairly thick sauce from all of that.

It's a good thing the bus brakes are squeaky so we can hear the bus coming. Some mornings the fog is really thick.
September 2, 2014
We used to be able to see the bus much better on the next road over, but the trees keep growing and block our view. We can still see it through one little gap for now.

After months of saving, my nephew finally had enough money to buy parts to make a computer. My husband put it all together. It should be a long time before he needs a new one.
