Small bug on a sunflower.

It's always interesting to see the sun's rays through clouds.

He's almost swimming already, going underwater, doing flips. He has a great time in the pool.

Wild grapes. There's a grapevine at the end of the hayfield, growing over some kind of apple tree. I've made jelly from it's grapes twice, though it's been several years since the last time. It doesn't have grapes every year, or it just doesn't have enough to bother with. But every so often, it will have an abundance. This is one of those years, it is covered with tiny grapes. Being wild, this is as big as they get (I am actually surprised they are this big). But they make a good, very tart jelly with a pretty purple color.

It's hot, and really humid. We had to take the solar cover off the pool because the water was getting too warm. Somewhere around 90, it starts feeling too warm for a pool.

Same zucchini, about 24 hours later. You can see a difference in the sizes of the left and right ones. Zucchini grows so fast.

Zucchinni. It came kind of late this year, but is very tasty regardless.

July 18, 2011

We had a few thunderstorms suddenly pop up today. We needed the rain though, the garden was getting dusty. When I was out taking this, it was extremely humid. One of those days you just walk outside and start sweating before you do anything. It's nice being able to look up current radar on the computer now. We saw this storm just suddenly form to the northwest of us, blow through, and disappear to the southeast.

Another iteration of a Lego village.

Cicada shell on my clothesline tree. It appeared, molted, and left in about 3-4 hours time. Three of them at once, actually.

Ox Roast, Mantua. These fairs are getting really expensive... $2 for a bottle of water/pop, $3-5 for food or a game or a ride. The kids have fun, but our wallet sure takes a hit.

The clouds looked interesting today while I was mowing.

More baling.

July 4, 2011

We went on an evening trip to this covered bridge. The bridge almost seemed too small for the minivan, but we made it through with room to spare I'm sure, even if it didn't feel like it.

July 3, 2011

Typical farm scene... something always seems to need fixing. On the side of a steep hill, naturally. Didn't take too long to get going again though. Pretty soon, we were baling all the hay on that steep hill.

July 2, 2011

It's that time of year again. Here's dad baling a pile of hay. As I did the past year or two, I spent some time making sure my younger son didn't get baled up too. He likes to see how things work. Unfortunately, he likes to be up close. He was better this year though. Last school year he even wrote a paper about how dangerous it is to bale hay (the assignment was to write about things you do as a family). That's why it's good to volunteer for school parties- so the teachers know you aren't the dangerous freak your child makes you out to be.

My oregano is turning into a bush. It's spreading out, even across the sidewalk.
